The HKMA has officially launched the 2025 Green FinTech Competition, a global initiative aimed at catalysing innovation at the intersection of finance and sustainability.

Organised in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers and supported by several prominent institutions including the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, Hong Kong Cyberport, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, and Invest Hong Kong, the competition is a central pillar of the HKMA’s broader strategy to bolster Hong Kong’s position as a hub for green FinTech.

This year’s competition will focus on five key themes that underscore pressing challenges and emerging opportunities within the financial sector: sustainable supply chains and SME support; advanced climate risk modelling and analytics; carbon market technology; sustainable investment strategies; and green banking and financing products.

By zeroing in on these areas, the HKMA aims to promote the adoption of FinTech tools that can enhance environmental resilience, drive decarbonisation, and empower financial institutions to better serve sustainability goals. The competition is also intended to deepen cross-sector collaboration and support the scaling of green FinTech solutions both within Hong Kong and globally.

Firms worldwide are invited to submit proposals that address at least one of the thematic areas. Entries must be submitted through the official competition website by 6 June 2025. A panel of judges comprising leaders from the banking, investment, technology, academic, and professional sectors will evaluate the submissions based on their innovation, impact, and commercial potential.

The winners will be invited to present their solutions at the 2025 Green FinTech Symposium on 12 September, a flagship event during Hong Kong Green Week. The Symposium will convene key industry players and provide winning teams with valuable exposure, strategic networking opportunities, and pathways to potential partnerships and funding.

HKMA said the initiative continues its broader mission of encouraging sustainable FinTech development, enhancing talent capabilities, and attracting global innovators to establish a presence in Hong Kong’s financial ecosystem.
