Home appliance maker National Presto Industries is scrambling to restore operations disrupted by a cyberattack that caused a system outage.

The incident, the company said in a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, occurred on March 1.

“Upon discovery, [National Presto Industries] activated its incident response team, comprised of internal personnel and external cybersecurity experts retained to assist in addressing the incident,” the company says.

National Presto Industries told the SEC it has notified the relevant law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies, noting that the investigation into the matter continues.

The company says it “is actively conducting a forensic analysis to determine the nature, scope, and impact of the incident. At this time, no conclusive evidence has been identified, but the investigation remains ongoing.”

The attack has had an impact on operations, including shipping and receiving, manufacturing processes, and some back-office functions, and efforts are underway to restore those. According to the company’s website, its phone lines are currently disabled.

“The registrant has implemented temporary measures to maintain critical functions while systems are being restored,” the company says.

National Presto Industries also said that the incident may have a material impact on its financial condition and results of operations, but noted that the full impact of the attack is yet unknown.

While National Presto Industries did not share specific details on what type of cyber incident it fell victim to, it is possible that the system outage was caused by a ransomware attack. SecurityWeek has contacted the company for additional information and will update this article if a reply arrives.

Founded in 1905, National Presto Industries is divided into three business segments, covering small household appliances, ordnance and ammunition products, the Rusoh Eliminator self-service fire extinguisher, and systems providing early warnings of conditions leading to significant losses.
