A network of North Korean fake IT workers has been creating personas on GitHub to obtain remote engineering and full-stack blockchain developer positions in the US and Japan, threat monitoring firm Nisos warns. The GitHub personas, which are reusing matured GitHub accounts and portfolio content, claim to be in Asia, and some of them appear to be employed at small companies. The network employs the same tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) previously associated with North Korean fake IT workers, including their claims of experience, accounts on multiple employment platforms, digitally manipulated photos, and the use of the same email addresses…
Britain’s competition regulator, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), said on Wednesday that Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI doesn’t qualify for an investigation under the merger provisions of the U.K.’s Enterprise Act 2002, the country’s anticompetitive practices law. “Overall, taking into account all of the available evidence […] the CMA does not believe that Microsoft currently controls OpenAI’s commercial policy, and instead exerts a high level of material influence over that policy,” the CMA wrote in its decision. “In other words there is no change of control giving rise to a relevant merger situation.” The CMA began investigating Microsoft’s partnership with…
The US Justice Department announced on Tuesday that two Venezuelan nationals were arrested and charged recently over their role in an ATM jackpotting scheme. In ATM jackpotting attacks, an ATM is hacked by installing a piece of malware on its hard drive or by replacing the drive with an infected device. The malware gives the attacker control over the ATM and causes it to dispense cash without the need to target a specific bank account. The latest suspects identified and arrested by US authorities for conducting ATM jackpotting are David Jose Gomez-Cegarra, 24, and Jesus Segundo Hernandez-Gil, 19, both of…

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Farmers and meat producers across the U.S. can expect the new tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China and the retaliatory action from those countries to hurt their bottom lines by billions of dollars if they stay in place a while, and consumers could quickly see higher prices for produce and ground beef. But some of the impact on farmers might not be felt until the next harvest and some products might actually get cheaper in the short run for consumers if exports suffer. And the price of corn, wheat and soybeans accounts for relatively little of the…

The SoftBank-backed chipmaker said on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with the Malaysian government to bolster the country’s chip design ecosystem.
