The abuse of the popular adversary simulation tool Cobalt Strike has decreased significantly over the past two years, according to Fortra, the product’s developer. Cobalt Strike is a legitimate post-exploitation tool designed for adversary simulation, but threat actors have found ways to create cracked copies (usually older versions of the product) that they can leverage in their operations. ServiceNow said on Monday that it has agreed to acquire Moveworks, which develops enterprise-focused automation and AI tools. ServiceNow will pay $2.85 billion for Moveworks in a mix of cash and stock. The former expects the deal to close in the second half of 2025. Bloomberg reported the deal late on Sunday night. A Texas man was convicted on Friday for building and deploying malware to sabotage his employer’s computer systems. The man, Davis Lu, 55, of Houston, worked as a software developer for the victim company for 12 years, and started sabotaging the employer’s network in 2018, after a corporate realignment that restricted his system access. According to evidence presented in court, by August 2019, Lu deployed on the victim company’s systems code that caused crashes by exhausting system resources through the creation of new threads without proper termination, leading to infinite loops. NEW YORK (AP) — A prominent Palestinian activist who helped lead protests at Columbia University is facing deportation following his arrest by federal immigration agents over the weekend.Mahmoud Khalil, who graduated from the university in December, was arrested Saturday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the arrest, saying it was a result of President Donald Trump’s executive orders prohibiting antisemitism. He has not been formally charged with a crime. Google on Friday announced paying $11.8 million in bug bounties to 660 researchers who reported security flaws via its vulnerability reward programs in 2024. According to the internet giant, it has awarded more than $65 million in bug bounty rewards since establishing its first vulnerability reward program (VRP) in 2010. The total amount, however, may be of approximately $71 million, as last year Google said it handed out $59 million between 2010 and 2023. SecurityWeek has emailed the company for clarification.
