Orion Security, an innovative cybersecurity company, has successfully completed a $6m Seed funding round.
According to CTech, the investment was spearheaded by Pico Partners and FXP, with additional contributions from Underscore VC and notable cybersecurity experts, including founders of Perimeter 81 and the CISO of Elastic.
Specializing in AI-driven data protection, Orion Security is at the forefront of addressing the escalating issue of data breaches, many of which are perpetrated by insiders. The rise of generative AI and cloud computing has intensified these security challenges, exemplified by incidents like the notable ChatGPT-related breach at Samsung and infiltration by North Korean state-backed hackers.
Orion Security intends to utilize the new funds to further develop its unique data protection technology. Unlike traditional methods that often employ rigid, rule-based security policies, Orion employs AI to learn and map an organization’s operational DNA. This advanced approach enables the detection of anomalies in data movement, effectively distinguishing between normal workflows and potential security threats.
Additional insights into Orion’s approach reveal a commitment to refining their Indicators of Leakage (IOL) engine. This engine integrates AI-driven reasoning and large language models to analyze patterns and detect risky behaviors without inundating security teams with false positives. By seamlessly integrating with cloud services, browsers, and devices, Orion’s technology continuously monitors data movement across an organization.
“Today’s data protection tools are failing because they lack the crucial business context needed to understand what’s truly risky,” Orion Security co-founder Nitay Milner said. “By using AI to map and understand an organization’s operational DNA, we’re enabling a new generation of data protection that can accurately distinguish between legitimate business workflows and potential data theft, without burdening already overstretched security teams.”
