EcoVadis, a leader in business sustainability ratings and solutions, has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of the Carbon Data Network.
According to ESG Today, this innovative data exchange platform is designed to facilitate the collection of reliable primary carbon data from suppliers.
The launch of this network addresses a crucial need within the corporate world for enhanced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction strategies. As companies strive to meet their net zero commitments, they encounter significant hurdles due to the imprecise and inconsistent data currently available. This new tool aims to simplify the tracking of Scope 3 indirect emissions and supports better decision-making processes for reducing carbon footprints.
EcoVadis operates at the intersection of technology and sustainability, offering a range of services that help companies measure and improve their environmental and social practices. The firm is renowned for integrating advanced technology with expert insights to deliver actionable sustainability ratings.
The Carbon Data Network is powered by EcoVadis’ Carbon Action Manager (CAM) Scope 3 supply chain engagement solution. It features a comprehensive database containing emissions data from over 150,000 organizations. This extensive network provides businesses with access to a variety of tools and resources, enhancing their capabilities in carbon management and accelerating the journey towards decarbonization.
In addition to launching the Carbon Data Network, EcoVadis has also forged strategic partnerships with carbon accounting providers Sweep and Normative. These collaborations are set to improve interoperability and facilitate faster data sharing across supply chains, significantly easing the reporting burdens associated with Scope 3 emissions calculations.
EcoVadis cofounder and co-CEO Pierre-François Thaler highlighted the importance of reliable data in achieving sustainability goals, stating, “The journey to Net Zero demands bold action, collaboration and trust in data. This is why we are innovating to increase data availability and reliability through automation and AI. With the network that we’ve built we are now able to generate insights on carbon reliability at a datapoint level.”
Julia Salant, General Manager of Carbon Solution at EcoVadis, also commented on the initiative, “Our goal is to empower companies with insights and make it easier for them to access primary supplier data exactly where they conduct their Scope 3 calculations. By expanding our ecosystem with partners like Sweep and Normative, we’re helping businesses to move from industry averages to primary emissions data and seamlessly bring it into their reporting and decarbonization efforts.”
