Tietoevry has published its Sustainability Statement 2024 as part of its annual report, marking a pivotal shift in its sustainability approach.
Tietoevry chief financial officer Tomi Hyryläinen said, “This Sustainability Statement provides comprehensive and transparent insights into Tietoevry’s sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities – aligned with the regulatory frameworks. Tietoevry’s Sustainability Pledge, launched in 2024, is our long-term plan focusing on areas where we can have the biggest impact: climate action, ethical conduct and social impact.”
The company has made significant progress towards its sustainability targets. In 2024, Tietoevry reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 87%, building upon the 84% reduction in 2023, with 2020 as the base year.
The company has set a target of achieving a 90% GHG reduction by 2026. Furthermore, 99% of electricity used in its global offices and data centres now comes from renewable sources, maintaining last year’s level and keeping the company on track for its 100% renewable energy target by 2026.
Tietoevry’s chief sustainability officer Ida Bohman Steenberg said, “We have made firm progress towards our targets during 2024. Some notable successes include reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions and advancing our commitment to the ethical use of technology – in particular, Responsible AI. We have also made progress in promoting diversity and inclusion within our workforce.”
A key focus area for Tietoevry in 2024 has been the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). The company introduced a mandatory e-learning programme on Responsible AI, which was completed by 97% of its 23,000 employees worldwide.
Diversity and inclusion also remain central to Tietoevry’s sustainability agenda. The company set a goal of 37% new female hires by 2025 and reached 34% in 2024 through inclusive recruitment campaigns and measures to minimise unconscious bias.
Looking ahead to 2025, Tietoevry plans to expand its sustainability initiatives, focusing on reducing emissions further, enhancing diversity efforts, and strengthening its Sustainability Pledge.
Tietoevry’s chief sustainability officer Bohman Steenberg added, “We are not alone in driving our ambitious sustainability goals. Being part of a sector enabling the green transition, we can make a positive impact together with our customers.”
