Climate tech leader Asuene expands into US market with NZero acquisition

Asuene, a Japan-based climate technology provider, and NZero, a US startup specialising in real-time energy data and emissions tracking, have announced a strategic acquisition deal.

Asuene focuses on ESG data management and decarbonisation services, while NZero provides AI-powered energy intelligence solutions. The deal makes NZero a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asuene America Holdings, further strengthening Asuene’s expansion into the US Greentech and corporate sustainability markets.

The acquisition is aimed at combining Asuene’s leadership in sustainability compliance in Asia with NZero’s advanced GHG emissions measurement capabilities, as the companies position themselves as a global powerhouse in climate technology. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 2019 by Kohei Nishiwada, Asuene offers cloud-based solutions that help more than 25,000 companies manage CO2 emissions, implement ESG strategies, and meet decarbonisation goals. Its investors include Salesforce Ventures, Sony Investment Fund, Pavilion Capital, SMBC, Japan Green Investment Corp., GMO VenturePartners, and MetaProp. The company was recently ranked 86th on TIME Magazine’s “World’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025” list, one of only three Japanese firms included.

NZero, based in Nevada, provides a platform that helps organisations and governments collect and analyse energy usage data at granular time intervals. Its technology is used across more than 20 US cities and states and is particularly strong in sectors such as transportation, digital infrastructure, health, and real estate. Its system allows users to optimise both emissions reductions and energy costs through AI.

The move comes amid a turbulent US climate policy environment. While federal decarbonisation efforts have waned, states such as California and New York have pushed ahead with ambitious emissions targets. This acquisition allows Asuene to tap into this decentralised momentum and position itself as a solution provider for both private and public sector climate action.

Asuene Founder and CEO Kohei Nishiwada said, “Partnering with NZero marks a significant milestone in Asuene’s journey toward becoming the world’s leading climate tech company. As decarbonisation becomes central to long-term strategy for businesses, our collaboration with NZero enables cutting-edge, data-driven solutions that support measurable outcomes.”

NZero CEO Josh Weber said, “This alliance allows NZero to accelerate GHG emissions measurement and the implementation of reduction measures in the United States and across Asuene’s global operations as a fully integrated partner.”

Nishiwada added, “NZero is a truly dependable and proven technology partner that has consistently achieved results for municipalities and public facilities.”

Asuene’s acquisition of NZero lays the groundwork for a unified climate tech platform capable of supporting global net-zero strategies and shaping a decarbonised future through precision technology and international collaboration.
