Private equity and venture capital company Insight Partners is informing some partners and employees that their information may have been stolen by hackers in the cyberattack discovered in January 2025.

The VC firm revealed in mid-February that it detected a breach on January 16 and it quickly kicked out the attacker. However, it suggested at the time that personal information and other sensitive data may have been compromised.

In an updated statement shared this week, Insight Partners confirmed that the intrusion resulted in a data breach that impacts both employees and partners.

“Based on our investigation to date, we understand that the impacted data may include certain fund, management company, and portfolio company information, banking and tax information, and certain personal information of our current and former employees, as well as information related to our Limited Partners,” the company said.

The VC firm’s investigation is ongoing, but individuals and companies that have been confirmed to be impacted are being notified.

Affected entities have been advised to change passwords associated with financial accounts and ensure that they use multi-factor authentication. In addition, they have been urged to monitor financial accounts and credit information, set a fraud alert, and consider freezing their credit reports.

It’s unclear if Insight Partners was targeted in a ransomware attack. No known ransomware group has taken credit for the intrusion.

Insight Partners has invested in more than 800 companies and has over $90 billion in regulatory assets under management. Major cybersecurity companies such as Armis, Aqua Security, Checkmarx, Recorded Future, SentinelOne, and Wiz have received funding from Insight Partners.
