Virtue AI has secured $30m in funding to accelerate its mission to enable safe, secure, and compliant deployment of generative AI technologies.
The funding round was co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Walden Catalyst Ventures, with additional participation from Prosperity7, Factory, Osage University Partners, Lip-Bu Tan, Amarjit Gill and Chris Re.
Founded by renowned AI researchers Bo Li, Dawn Song, Carlos Guestrin, and Sanmi Koyejo, Virtue AI addresses the growing tension between innovation and security in enterprise AI deployment. The founding team brings over 80 years of collective experience in foundational AI safety and security research, with their work recognised by institutions such as the National Security Agency (NSA).
Virtue AI’s platform is designed to tackle complex threats specific to AI systems—such as hallucinations, prompt injections, and data poisoning—that traditional cybersecurity frameworks often fail to address. The company offers three key products: VirtueRed, an algorithmic red teaming tool assessing over 320 risk types; VirtueGuard, high-speed guardrails performing significantly better across multiple modalities; and VirtueAgent, an automation tool for compliance and security integration.
With the new capital, Virtue AI plans to expand its platform capabilities, scale its market footprint, and recruit top-tier AI talent. This comes at a time when the AI security market is experiencing rapid growth, fuelled by the rise of autonomous and agentic AI systems across industries.
The firm has already gained traction with enterprise clients, including Uber and Glean. Uber’s group product manager on AI platform, Kai Wang, said, “We’ve been collaborating closely with Virtue AI to implement robust content safety guardrails for our Gen AI applications, ensuring they are safe, responsible, and aligned with our community standards.”
Glean founder and CEO Arvind Jain added, “Our collaboration with Virtue AI helps us stay ahead of emerging threats and deliver on our promise to keep users in control and their data protected.”
Backing from investors reflects strong confidence in Virtue AI’s approach. Lip-Bu Tan, founding managing partner at Walden Catalyst Ventures, said, “Virtue AI is shaping the future of GenAI security… Their disruptive technology and impressive market traction demonstrate the potential to redefine how organisations across the globe approach AI safety and security.”
Lightspeed Venture Partners’ Guru Chahal and James Alcorn added, “Built on the fundamental AI safety research of its cofounders, Virtue AI has quickly established a leadership position atop the fast-growing AI red-teaming and guardrails category.”
